Introduction:
Bhagyalaxmi is an NGO that has been working for the welfare of the underprivileged section of society. One of the most critical aspects of public health that is often overlooked is eye health. Poor eye health can lead to a range of issues that can affect the quality of life. To address this issue, Bhagyalaxmi conducted an eye checkup camp in collaboration with a team of eye specialists. This essay will describe the eye checkup camp conducted by Bhagyalaxmi in detail.
The eye checkup camp was planned well in advance to ensure its smooth execution. The team of eye specialists was contacted, and a date was fixed. The NGO contacted local authorities and made arrangements for a venue where the camp could be conducted. The camp was publicized through posters, pamphlets, and local newspapers, to ensure maximum participation. Volunteers were recruited to assist the eye specialists during the camp.
On the day of the camp, the volunteers and the eye specialists arrived at the venue early in the morning to set up the necessary equipment. The equipment included vision charts, eye drops, and diagnostic instruments. The participants were registered and provided with an ID card that they could use to collect their reports later.
The eye specialists first conducted a preliminary checkup to assess the general eye health of the participants. This involved testing visual acuity, checking for refractive errors, and examining the eye for any visible abnormalities. Participants who required further examination were referred for detailed diagnosis.
The eye specialists then conducted a detailed examination, which included checking the intraocular pressure, examining the retina, and checking for signs of cataract or glaucoma. The examination was conducted in a well-lit room to ensure that the eye specialists could get a clear view of the eye.
Once the examination was complete, the participants were given eye drops to dilate the pupils. This allowed the eye specialists to examine the retina and the optic nerve in greater detail. Participants were advised not to drive for a few hours after the examination, as the eye drops can cause temporary blurring of vision.
