School screening camps for identification of Amblyopia
One of the major challenges faced by Bhagyalaxmi in paediatric eye care is that, due to lack of awareness on parents’ part, children are not brought in for treatment on time and delayed treatment can cause permanent damage to the eyes in children. To address this situation, Bhagyalaxmi Society has initiated a school screening programme under which schools in the city as well as remote areas are motivated to hold free eye check-up camps organized by our Society. During the camps, all children in each school undergo preliminary vision testing, preliminary diagnostic examination, refraction and examination by the doctor/ optometrist.
Such camps have been held in many schools. The school management generously offered their esteemed cooperation to us in the endeavour. Organising such camps in the schools for the benefit of students, teachers etc. has its own importance and value. Young boys and girls studying in schools are the pillars of the Nation and on their schoulders rest the future of this great Nation.
In this special endeavour our society trained 20 students. Eventually these students have started their optical shops. The achievement of the society in this regard is significant in providing not only education but also opportunity for self employment.
